Who am i ?

My name is Ahmed Al Khaili, am 27 years old and am from Abu Dhabi. I study Higher Diploma in Engineering specialising in Chemical. My hobbies are reading stories, swimming, paying football and I like to go to the cinema every weekend , before I forget that Iam working in Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. I don’t like to talk too much and I often listen to music when I feel worried. Sometimes I like to ride a horse but when I was a child, I was afraid of horses. I like to get new friends from everywhere, especially from the United Arab Emirates. I have a Mercedes car and I like it because it is giving me power and relaxation. I spend most of my time in Abu Dhabi Men’s college and I have good teachers like Ms.Ruth and Mr.Headly. I hope to continue my studies after Higher Diploma to get a Masters Degree.

Specific cause of Global Warming. Carbon dioxide

There are many causes for the Global warming and one of these causes, carbon dioxide is most important one because it comes from everywhere. Most global warming happens because of carbon dioxide from the Cars, power plants, trucks, airplanes, buildings and the atmosphere. There are many things the world should understand like carbon dioxide because it causes more problems for us, so people should understand and know what the problem is. The government should produce strict rules for all industrial plants and this is what happens in most countries like in the UAE, which produce strict rules for all plants, by giving them the maximum percentage of carbon dioxide they can reach. In addition to that, for cars there is a checking centre in ADNOC which cooperates with the police. Every year, each car should go through these centers, which check if they are producing more carbon dioxide, then these cars will not pass the test.

What is Global Warming?

Global warming is the increase of the temperature on the earth. This increase is caused by humans who burn fossil fuels. The gases that are produced by the burning are trapped in the atmosphere and cause pollution. When the gas is stuck, the heat increases and the light does not reflect away from the earth.
As a result of global warming the sea level rises and the air gets polluted. People get affected by these results because less drinking water is available, and many plants and animals die because of the heat.
Some countries are worried and think that it is a major problem, and as a solution they put laws on factories and companies to decrease the amount of fuel that is burned. Many countries do not care about this danger and continue burning and increasing the global problem.

Individual Action

In the United Arab Emirates there are many actions which they can be individual, for example, UAE there major oil and gas producer, and so because of that they can use this energy to the renewable energy resources. In addition, there are numbers of plans and initiatives, including the establishment of a research national center to focus on renewable energy studies. Moreover, the center will also liaise with international bodies to work out programmes for production of renewable energy. And the important thing is that the UAE has solar energy and this is because of its sunshine throughout the year. In addition, the United Arab Emirates is using solar energy to desalinate the water and they have a plant for that purpose, the UAE has begun studies and introduction of solar energy since 1985 and it was successful. Also they are going to use gas fuel for the cars and this is now working in some emirates like in Sharjah and it is going to be used for all the cars on beginning of next year which are on UAE. Moreover "Diesel Fuel" is going to take off from the markets on the end of this year because they found that most of the pollution on the environment happens because of the "Diesel". Also for the people, there are many things they can do for example, they have to use less electricity, not to use big cars for the inside city to use less petrol, use less water and try to not destroy the water. In addition, people must check there cars if there is more carbon dioxide emissions comes out, also in the beginning of next year everybody should change his car system from Petrol to Gas system and there will be qualified people to change the system and it will be for about 3000 DH and it will take for about 3 hours. Moreover, we should to keep our environment clean and tidy to keep away from hard effects of global warming. In addition we can simple reduce carbon emissions by fitting low energy light bulbs, walking short distance rather than taking car and switching electrical appliances off at night.

UAE and Global Warming

I was interested how the United Arab Emirates care in global warming, so I did some research on the net and I found many articles. I selected two articles and Iam going to write on both articles. The first one was saying that there was a seminar on Abu Dhabi on GCC's peaceful nuclear programme and topics which were included in the seminar are the reality and strategies of using nuclear power for generating electricity, global warming, greenhouse gases and components of nuclear reactors. In addition, there are international standards about nuclear program which all the world should follow. This is what Director General of the Institute of Diplomacy said.

In the second article, it says that, there were Environment 2007 Conference in Abu Dhabi and it was the most important one on the Gulf. Also this conference was showing how the UAE wants to protect the environment, and to make a discussion which focus mainly on energy sources, including solar, wind and other renewable sources of energy from the marine environment and coastal areas, as well as water treatment and desalination technologies through the use of highly effective means of energy. In addition, His Highness Sheikh “Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan” said that the UAE is a major oil and gas producer, yet we have focused in recent years on renewable energy resources so as to provide cost-effective and environment-friendly energy. Also, according to scientists, renewable energy sources have the potential of providing us with as much clean energy as we need. This will reduce emissions which are the main cause of global warming. Also they believe that global warming will have a devastating effect on the world if heavy reliance on conventional sources is not reduced.

The causes of Global Warming

There are many causes of global warming. First of all, carbon dioxide which is coming
from industrial plants and it happens by the burning of fossil fuels for the purpose of electricity generation. The second cause is carbon dioxide from cars because of the burning of gasoline in internal-combustion engines and also from trucks and airplanes. In addition, it happens from building structures. The second most important cause is methane, which is more than 20 times as effective as CO2 at trapping heat in the atmosphere. Also there is a gas which the scientists call “laughing gas” and it’s sometimes used as an anesthetic. After carbon emissions caused by humans, deforestation is the second principle cause of atmospheric carbon dioxide The atmosphere contains about 750 billion tons of carbon, while 800 billion tons are dissolved in the surface layers of the world's oceans. Furthermore, scientists have found that most drivers waste millions of gallons of gas while just sitting in traffic.

Health-Direct effects of temperature rise

Health can be affected by global warming because it will increase the temperature and when it increases, can be harmful for people and it can make people die for example from heart problems. In hot weather, people should work harder to keep the body cool because of this high temperature. Higher temperatures in winter reduce deaths from cold, higher temperatures in summer increase heat-related deaths. Every year the temperature increases and this can change our lives because more people will die, so we have to think about it and make good plans for it, for example, when replacing home appliances, use energy efficient models, use cars and light trucks that get good gas mileage.
